WHERE DOES EUCALYPTUS ESSENTIAL OIL COME FROM?

Eucalyptus comes from the leaves of the Eucalyptus tree. The trees can be found in South Africa, China, Spain but mainly in Australia. There are two types of essential oil varieties: Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus radiata. They are very similar in their therapeutic benefits; however, the globulus variety is a stronger aroma than its sister radiata. The oil is steam distilled from the leaves of the tree to obtain this powerhouse oil. The aroma is bold, fresh, and medicinal. When you open a bottle of eucalyptus, you know that it is serious in its actions.

BENEFITS OF EUCALYPTUS ON MOOD

The aroma brings a lift to your mood and a bounce in your step. The invigorating scent will help when you are feeling exhausted and fatigued. When you’re fizzling out, inhaling the oil’s bold uplifting aroma can help you ditch that afternoon cup of coffee, so diffuse some eucalyptus instead. Do you have something to study or a project to focus on at work? This oil can aid in concentration, helping to clear the mind so that you can really center your focus on that project or exam.

PERFECT ESSENTIAL OIL FOR CLEANING THE HOUSE

Adding Eucalyptus to your homemade cleaning mixtures can really combat unwanted germs on surfaces in the home. The anti-microbial properties make it such an effective, natural, non-toxic household cleaner. The fresh, clean scent leaves the home smelling “shiny” if you will.  Mold and mildew are no match for eucalyptus, making the bathroom the perfect place to use it.  If the mold is problematic to your health, eucalyptus’s respiratory support will be an added benefit to you.

USING EUCALYPTUS ESSENTIAL OIL FOR PAIN RELIEF

There are anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties found in pure eucalyptus essential oil, making this oil an effective addition to any blend that is made to ease aches and pains, especially muscle aches accompanied by the common cold and flu viruses. Add a few drops of eucalyptus to balms, lotions, carrier oils, and butters to ease sore muscles. The therapeutic action really makes itself shown when used to ease a headache, especially when that headache is due to sinus pressure. Using eucalyptus in an inhaler with frankincense and lavender is very effective in headache relief.

USING EUCALYPTUS ESSENTIAL OIL TO SUPPORT YOUR HEALTH

Eucalyptus’s powerful support to the immune and respiratory systems is probably the most impressive benefit of the oil. It takes the job of supporting and nourishing your health very seriously. Because of the chemical components it holds, there is a strong antimicrobial effect with this oil. Diffuse eucalyptus to decrease germs in the air during cold and flu season. As mentioned for cleaning, using it on surfaces around the home is a perfect nontoxic way to kill unwanted invaders. There are other oils that are equally active in cleaning and disinfecting the air, but what makes this the powerhouse for immune support and relieving cold symptoms, is that it is extremely supportive for healthy breathing. The anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties, help ease the inflammation in the lungs, as it calms coughing and additionally, clearing mucus; in turn, opening the airway.

IMPORTANT SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

It is true that Eucalyptus can do amazing things, but not everyone should use it. Children under 5 should not use eucalyptus topically (on the skin). The oil could cause constriction of small lungs, leading to breathing issues. Use some caution with folks who have chronic respiratory disease, always try in small amounts first, if you have concerns, to be sure that there is no reaction. If you feel tightness of any kind, in the lungs, do not use eucalyptus. A good substitution, and one that is completely safe for children, is cedarwood. It has similar chemical components, offering comparable therapeutic responses. That being said, if you do not have any sensitivity to eucalyptus, this oil can be your best friend during cold and flu season, and effectively taking you through allergy season, as well.
