WHERE DOES SWEET ORANGE ESSENTIAL OIL COME FROM?
Sweet Orange or Citrus sinensis, essential oil is distilled from the fresh fruit rind of the orange, usually originating in Isreal, South Africa, and Brazil. It is distilled by using the cold-pressed process.
THE BENEFITS OF SWEET ORANGE ON MOOD
As I mentioned, the aroma of sweet orange is amazingly uplifting. It’s just such a light fragrance that as it perks you up, it also calms in a way that makes you feel balanced and less anxious. It’s great to use when you’re feeling overwhelmed and tense. It is also useful to combat pessimism; like your best friend cheering you along to get out there and “get it done”.
SKIN BENEFITS OF SWEET ORANGE ESSENTIAL OIL
You may have heard that many citrus essential oils are phototoxic (very sensitive to the sun). Sweet Orange is one of the few that you can use in lotions, butters, and balms, and not worry about this issue. There are potential astringent properties, as well, which makes it a great toning oil for the skin. Add a few drops to your favorite lotion, to not only enjoy the aroma but help with any aches and pains, especially when you may be experiencing achiness from illness. Limonene is the main chemical component of this oil. Who cares? The component has a considerable anti-inflammatory action. Without getting too far into the dreaded high school chemistry class, just know that the actions of any essential oil, depend highly on the amount of the main chemical component it has.
THE BENEFITS OF SWEET ORANGE ESSENTIAL OIL ON IMMUNE SYSTEM
This is one of the most impressive benefits of sweet orange. The ability for the oil to stimulate white blood cell production, when bacterial and viral invaders are in range, again from the limonene, is awesome. Sweet orange is also known to have great antioxidant activity. Add to an inhaler or diffuser blend when needing to boost your immunity or even after you are sick, to help support the immune system and regain your vital energy.
SWEET ORANGE BENEFITS ON GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM
Sweet Orange has great benefits for Gastrointestinal health. The aroma itself can stimulate gastric secretion and saliva, aiding in digestion, helping constipation, easing abdominal cramping, and relieving nausea and vomiting. When combined with other oils that have the same effect, you can create an awesome blend. Here is a recipe for nausea that is effective and my go-to!!
